James was an apostle, the son of Zebedee and the brother of John. He, John, and Peter are the three disciples Jesus took with him on the mountain as witnesses to the Transfiguration. (Matthew 17: 1:13) The “M” following his name in the window indicates that he was a martyr (Acts 12:2). The scallop shell under his right elbow is a symbol of pilgrimage and stands for his zeal and missionary spirit.
