Abraham, birth name Abram, is the first of the three biblical patriarchs. His story, told in chapters 11 through 25 of the Book of Genesis, plays a prominent role in Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá’í Faith. He is shown here with the knife with which he planned to slay his son Isaac in obedience to God, and with a staff, indicating the long journey he and his family made to settle in the land of Canaan.
