Isaiah was a prophet who lived about the time of the 8th century BCE in Judah. He is the nominal author of the Book of Isaiah, although scholars generally attribute the writing to several sources over more than 200 years. Christians cite his prophecies as foretelling the birth, ministry, and death of Jesus.
He is shown here responding to God’s call: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, “Here am I, send me” (Isaiah 6:8).
