Solomon was, according to the books of 1 Kings and 1 Chronicles (and also the Koran), the son of David, and a wealthy, wise king of Israel (about 970 - 931 BCE). He is credited with building the first Temple in Jerusalem. He is shown here as both king and judge. Solomon’s prayer upon succeeding to the throne was “Give my servant an understanding heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and bad, for who is able to judge this thy people.” (I Kings 3:9)
