The Rev. Thomas P. Murray

Tom grew up in Winston-Salem. He was confirmed at St. Paul’s in 1983 and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1986. After graduating from North Carolina State University (BA in Psychology) in 1992, he accepted the call to become the Director of Youth Ministries at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Hartsville, SC (1993-1996). He married Perrin Steele, a Winston-Salem native, at St. Paul’s in 1994.

They left for Sewanee, TN, in 1996, where Tom earned a Master of Divinity degree from The School of Theology of The University of the South. He was ordained to the diaconate in May 1999 and to the priesthood in December 1999. After seminary, Tom served as an Associate Rector at St. Helena’s Episcopal Church in Beaufort, SC (1999-2003), where his primary areas of oversight were youth and family ministries. In the Diocese of South Carolina, Tom was elected to Diocesan Council (2001-2004), and served as the chairperson for the Department of Youth Ministry.

In 2003, the Murrays moved to Cheraw, SC, where Tom served as the Rector of St. David’s Episcopal Church until accepting the call in 2006 to become an Associate Rector at St. Paul’s where his area of oversight is Pastoral Care.

The Murrays have four children: Virginia, William, Evie, and Sophie.Tom’s international travel exposure includes England, Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. He enjoys tennis, swimming, and spending time with family.
